I love to shoot outdoors. I will 9/10 find a place to setup a photography session somewhere remote, somewhere with lots of nature elements: mountains, a forest, a hiking trail etc.. I do have an at-home studio setup, mostly I like to shoot as natural as possible. But! What if you have a client, that doesn’t have the capability to get out somewhere? And also at times, I shy away from having people come to my house to do a session because if you don’t know them well enough it might be off-putting a/o potentially creepy. So what do you do?

Well, for this session after some intel from the couple, I decided to bring both my at home studio and the natural environment aura to their doorstep…literally. One thing I’ve learned during maternity shoots is that I try to not have the mother move around so much. I don’t want them getting worn out, tired, especially if it’s in the later weeks of their term. It’s not a good idea (unless they’re up for it and gung-ho, outdoorsy people). In talking with the mother-to-be to get an idea of the layout of their house she flashed up a photo of their backyard deck and it was perfect, so me and my assistant went all in. I like to shoot a lot of floral, so I brought all the floral I could gather that would match her favorite colors and it worked like a charm.

This whole post can be summarized by saying, you don’t always have to do everything the same way repeatedly and learn to adapt to changes. To any of my photography family who read these blogs I say - do everything in your power to make it work for your client. It’s about them anyways, so go that extra mile. It’ll show that you really care and put some thought into their needs and not just another paycheck at the end of the day.

A very lovely congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Rajaram. They’re going to be pretty awesome at this.
